Discovering the Eternal City
Located between the Apennines and the beautiful Tyrrhenian Sea, more precisely on the banks of the Tiber River, the Eternal City lives up to its name and seems stoped in time.
With imposing ruins very well preserved, great personality, perfect Mediterranean climate and a particular geography where hills predominate, Rome turns out to be a must in any tour to the old continent.
On this trip we will enter the center of one of the most powerful civilizations in history, which culture remains alive in each of the corners of the city. The plan for these six days in Rome is to begin touring the historic area, which will transport us to the golden age of the city. We can explore one of the great wonders of humanity that remains almost intact, the monumental Coliseum. We will also visit the Roman forums and the Palatine.
Then we will devote ourselves to discover Renaissance Rome, with its narrow and cobbled streets that lead to magnificent piazzas surrounded by Baroque churches, huge and luxurious palaces and wonderful fountains. Some of the best places to visit are the famous Piazza Navona with its Fountain of the Four Rivers of Bernini, the Piazza di Spagna with its famous staircase and the beautiful Fontana di Trevi. There will also be time to appreciate art and nature in the renowned Borghese Gallery which is located in one of the most emblematic parks in Rome, Villa Borghese.
We will visit one of the smallest states in the world, the Vatican State, which have a vast collection of art that thrills. We will visit the Sistine Chapel and the imposing Basilica of San Pedro. Finally, we will get lost in the pleasant streets of Trastevere, one of the most picturesque neighborhoods of the city, populated by bars and trattorias where we can experience traditional Italian food.

After settling down, begin to acclimatize by taking a short walk through your accommodation area, until you reach the Archbasilica of Saint John Lateran, one of the most beautiful churches in Rome, which is steps from the Porta San Giovanni, south gate of one of the Aurelian Walls of the City. Take a light lunch at Café Marulana and then head to Piazza di Spagna to take the free walking tour and learn about the history of the city.
In the morning visit the Colosseum to learn all the secrets that this symbol of the history of humanity holds, the scene of fights between gladiators and other spectacles. Later, go through the Roman Forum, center of the commercial, political and religious life of the empire and end the day at the Palatine Hill, an open-air museum with imperial palaces, from where you can see the place where, according to legend, Romulus founded the city in 753 BC.
Start the tour at the Quirinale Palace and then head towards the famous Trevi Fountain. Continue to the Pantheon, a masterpiece of Roman architecture and when you leave, relax in one of the breweries in Piazza della Rotondo. In the afternoon visit Piazza Navona with its spectacular fountain of the four rivers and the Campo di Fiori market. End the day in Piazza Venezia admiring the imposing Altare de la Patria, Italy’s largest monument.
Start the day at Piazza del Popolo and then go to Villa Borghese, the most beautiful park in Rome that combines nature and architecture in a perfect way in its 80 hectares. Lose yourself on its tree-lined paths and choose the best shade to make a dream picnic. Do not miss the Pincio terrace, one of the best viewpoints in the city. In the afternoon, visit the Borghese Gallery, where you can see impressive works of Renaissance art.
Dedicate the day to visit the Vatican City, the smallest sovereign state in the world. Begin in the Vatican Museums, where you can find some of the best art collections in the world, with the Sistine Chapel being the great must-see. Take a break and have lunch at Alice Pizza. In the afternoon tour the imposing Saint Peter´s Basilica and climb to its dome, from where you will have one of the best views of the Eternal City. End the day at Castel Santagelo.
On the last day, cross the Tiber River and visit Trastevere, one of the most charming neighborhoods in the city, where you can experience traditional Italian cuisine. Start the tour in Piazza Santa Maria and visit the church with the same name, which is one of the oldest in Rome. Walk along Via de la Lungranetta, where you will find trattorias and bars. Visit the market of Piazza San Cosmiatro and climb to Mount Gianicolo to see the sunset.

Although Rome is a very friendly city to travel by foot, the public transport network is very efficient and well connected. Also the prices of tourist passes, for 24 hours, 48 hours, 72 hours and 7 days, with unlimited travel for a fixed price.
The best time to visit Rome is in spring (between April and May) or autumn (October, November) . The Roman summer is hot and humid, and coincides with the tourist high season so all the attractions of the city are usually crowded. For this reason I recommended to avoid the months of July / August.
To try the best ice cream in Rome I recommend: Gelateria del Teatro, Gelateria Dei Gracchi and El Gelato de San Crispino.
In Trástevere there are restaurants for all tastes. For the fanatics of the pastas it is recommended “Nanarella” (do not forget to ask for tiramisu for dessert). “Grazia y Graziella” is not to be missed because of its extensive and varied menu of pizzas and to try something different “Il Buff”, Calabrian restaurant specializing in buffalo products. The star dish: Rissotto con crema di buffala.
In Piazza di Spagna area you will find one of the oldest restaurants in Rome “Re Degli Amici“, delicious pastas, good atmosphere and excellent service.
To take a break in the Pantheon area, I recommend Di Rienzo (in Piazza de la Rotonda), restaurant with good beers, pizzas and snacks.
